Bijlage 8 : Getij Stroming - Inleiding

Gegevens over de getijstromen worden jaarlijks gepubliceerd. Er zijn geen stroomatlassen beschikbaar waarbij de getijstromen gerelateerd zijn aan de tijden van hoogwater, zoals de Nederlandse stroomatlassen. In het boek 'Tidal Current Tables 1999: Pacific Coast of North America and Asia' zijn de dagelijkse getijstromen van primaire meetstations opgenomen. Via correctiefactoren van secundaire meetstations kunnen ook de getijstromen op diverse andere plaatsen worden bepaald. Er is ook een lokale uitgave met uitsluitend de stroming gegevens van Alaska.

Voor de bepaling van de stroming bij een bepaald secundair meetstation kan de volgende berekening worden gebruikt.

Voorbeeld: Stroming bij Icy Strait, North Passage op 9 juli 1999.
 
Uitwerking:Het secundaire meetstation Icy Strait, North Passage is gerelateerd aan het primaire meetstation North Inian Pass. De tijden van het primaire meetstation moeten gecorrigeerd worden voor zomertijd.

Bijzonderheden bij bovenstaande tabel:
In deze bijlagen zijn geen correctie tijden opgenomen voor maximale eb/vloed. Dit is eventueel te interpoleren (niet nauwkeurig!) met de correctie tijden voor de kentering. In de kolommen van eb/vloed is de stroomsterkte in knopen weergegeven. Vermenigvuldigt met de correctiefactor eb/vloed voor het secundaire meetstation levert dit de verwachte maximale eb/vloed stroming op. De maximale ebstroom in Icy Strait, North Passage is 3,6 knopen.

Diverse publicaties zijn op internet te vinden. Bij het Marine Navigation Department van het NIMA (National Imagery and Mapping Agency) is onder andere de 'Light List' en 'Chart #1' te vinden. Daarnaast ook het interessante nautische naslagwerk 'Bowditch: the American Practical Navigator'.

Voor het bijwerken van zeekaarten en coast pilot is informatie beschikbaar in de vorm van local notices to mariners. Deze worden uitgegeven door de US Coast Guard. Voor Alaska is dit het 17de district.


Bijlage 15 : Topografische Kaarten

Topografische kaarten worden uitgegeven door de US Geological Survey (USGS). Een overzicht van de beschikbare topografische kaarten (schaal 1:63.360) is te vinden in de USGS kaartbrochure: Alaska: Index to topographic and other map coverage (ALASKA 58134-MI-99X).

Daarnaast is er een zeer uitgebreid boekwerk beschikbaar met een index van alle beschikbare topografische kaarten van Alaska.

De topografische kaarten bieden niet veel extra informatie ten opzichte van de zeekaarten als het gaat om de kustlijn en landingsmogelijkheden. Voor bepaalde gedeelten zijn geen zeekaarten in een geschikte schaal beschikbaar. Topografische kaarten kunnen daar uitkomst bieden.
